Two and a half weeks moving up the coast by private yacht, with tee times held at St Andrews, Royal Dornoch and Turnberry along the way. Between rounds there are distilleries that don't receive visitors, dinners in castles that have never been hotels, and a helicopter for the days when the next course is a long sail away.

Hirono, Kawana and Naruo are famously difficult to get on — which is, of course, half the appeal. We arrange the introductions, and the rest of the journey follows: heritage ryokans, omakase counters with eight seats, an early round beneath Fuji.

Golf Safari

You can play Leopard Creek in the morning and watch elephants from the lodge deck that same evening. We pair the golf with private safari, a few days in the winelands, and a private dinner on top of Table Mountain, hosted by FYN — one of the world's hundred best restaurants. It is not an evening anyone can book. The lodges are good enough to make the tee times feel optional.

Some legs of a journey are better made by sea. We charter everything from Mediterranean classics to expedition vessels built for Scottish weather — with crews we have sailed with before, and a tender in the water before breakfast.

Benetti, Lürssen and Feadship builds along the Riviera and the Aegean. We know which of them live up to their photographs, and which merely take good ones.

Expedition Yachts

Ice-class hulls for Scotland, Norway, and further south than most owners will take their own boats. Built for real weather, and comfortable in it.

Private Chef & Cellar

A chef and sommelier on board, provisioning as you go. The fish comes off the morning boats, and the wine list changes with the coastline.
